Live Love Laugh

Happy Valentine's Day!

So here's my latest project and again, thanks to the Dollarama!

Now this board is actually a cork board with what was originally an ivory frame, courtesy of Winners.  I had the bright idea that I was going to turn it into a work of art for my niece's birthday present.  But, of course, it didn't work out - but I only figured that out once I had already painted it.

So, I was walking through the Dollarama and saw this sign:

And I got an idea.

I went through my supplies and pulled out what I needed:

And then I ripped the paper (ignore the chocolate in the corner):

I then glued the strips onto the board with plain white glue:

And then I painted it purple and once that dried - silver and once that dried gold.  I did this a few times until I decided I was satisfied with the combination of colours:

And I did the same with the sign, but put a layer of white glitter on it, too - just to give it a little shimmer:

And here's the finished product:

You may have noticed that purple seems to be a theme here.  But these projects are for the bedroom which is, you guessed it, purple.

I'll try to work on another room soon.

Words of Inspiration

I'm happy with the way my latest project turned out.

The first picture should actually show a white canvas, but I forgot that two years ago I had attempted to try something that didn't quite turn out and I started off by painting the canvas purple.  It's a purple I didn't quite like and really wasn't inspired at the time, so I tried to paint it white and gave up because I ended up finding a really nice wrapping paper that I wrapped the canvas with and, viola, instant art.

I got tired of that and was inspired by a piece I saw at Bowrings earlier this year, but it  was way too big for any of the walls in my place so I thought that I could make my version of it or at least try.

The letters are foam from the dollar store and I chose these words because they, well, inspire me  :)

In the next picture, I glued the letters to the board and painted everything gold.

Then I mixed purple with some gold paint and you can't see it, but it has a shimmer to it.

It took me a while to come up with a pattern to texturize the canvas and I ended up just putting gobs of paint on the canvas and making swirls and such.  Once it dried, I went over it again with the gold paint.  You can still see a bit of the purple peeking through - which is exactly what I wanted.

Clay Pots - A Christmas Story

In the late autumn when I was contemplating what Christmas craft project I was going to try this year, I checked out Michael's website and found a section for Christmas crafts made using clay pots http://www.michaels.com/Clay-Pot-Crafting/projects-christmas-claypotcrafting,default,sc.html.  I can't seem to find a link or pictures of the actual project that inspiried me, but I believe it was created by Donna Bush and it was truly beautiful.  On my version, the face, because I honestly cannot draw, I used craft supplies, but the original was painted with the most beautiful face. I'll keep looking for it and when and if I find it, I'll include a link.

This is my version..
